Jay Jacobs arrived at Timber Lake
in 1967 as a camper, and worked his way up from counselor to head counselor
before becoming owner/director in 1980. He is highly regarded in the camping
industry for his innovative ideas and was appointed by the Governor to
serve on the NY State Camp Health and Safety Council. Jay has served as
President of the NY Section of the American Camping Association, Past
President of NY State Camp Directors' Association, and Chairman of Summer
Camp Opportunities Provide an Edge, a program which provides camping experiences
for inner city kids at a host of not-for-profit camps. In 2001, Jay founded
and currently serves as chair of Heal the Children, a program of the American
Camping Association that provides free camperships to the children of
victims of the 9/11 tragedy. His first love, however, is the time he spends
every summer with his campers.
Mindy Jacobs, too, was a camper
and then a staff member at Timber Lake, and became director of girls'
campus in 1982. She is the person who gets to hear problems both big and
small and help solve them. Her top priority is to help all girls feel
comfortable at Timber Lake and to make sure parents know their children
are safe and secure in every way at camp.

Janie Schwartz has been in camping
since 1980. She is a full time Associate Director during the winter months
and works as the Girls' Head Counselor during the camp season. Janie is
involved in staff recruitment, program development and she keeps in touch
with campers and parents. Her goal is to fulfill our camp mission which
is to teach kids the skills of making and keeping friends while building
their self-confidence and self esteem.

Dave Skolnik has been a part of the Timber Lake Camp family since he was a camper at age 10. Dave adds the valuable perspective of having been a camper, counselor, group leader, and now as Associate Director. Upon graduating from Cornell University's business program in 2005, Dave jumped at the opportunity to follow his passion and work full time in the camp profession. Bringing a sense of excitement and spirit to camp, Dave spends his summers working with campers and supervising the action-packed TLC program.

The key to a great summer camp is the quality of its staff. At Timber
Lake, we take pride in our commitment to recruiting, training and keeping
the highest quality staff in the camping profession. With a 1:2 staff
to camper ratio, we work to ensure the best possible care, instruction
and supervision for our campers.
Timber Lake's staff salaries are the highest in the industry, ensuring
a wide pool of quality applicants (college sophomores start at a $2,000
base). Full-year training program employs the services of top psychologists
and experts in the child development field.
A summer bonus incentive program rewards quality performance three times during the summer and provides counselors the opportunity to earn a maximum of $500 above their contracted salary.
