Steve Bocian is the Boys Head Counselor. This is Steve’s 22nd year at Timber Lake and 42nd year working at sleep away camp. Steve has never missed a year in camp since he was 7 years old. He has often said he became a teacher so he could continue to work at camp. He is proud of the new programs and activities that have been implemented over the last 22 years.

“Our league program is the best around”. The Gordon Cup Hockey Tournament and Jacobs Basketball Tournament have become the biggest tournaments around. Campers work from the time they are Freshmen on their hockey and basketball skills in an attempt to prepare themselves for those tournaments. During the off season, Steve is a math teacher and math chairman at East Meadow High School on Long Island.  Steve looks forward to seeing all the returning campers and staff and the new ones as well this summer. “It’s going to be a great 2008”.

Matt Dandola is back as the Freshman Division Leader. He's spent many summers working at summer camps. Matt graduated from St. John's University with a BS in Elementary Education. He teaches fifth grade science and coaches middle school soccer and lacrosse at Collegiate School for Boys in New York City. Matt is an officer in the US Army Reserve and an avid snowboarder. He can't wait to get back to Timber Lake for what's sure to be a truly great summer.

Jason Mercado comes to Timber Lake Camp after spending four years working in the business world. This summer he will be the division leader for the Cadet boys. Jason graduated from Brown University in 2003 where he competed on the varsity wrestling team. During this time, Jason also worked as a coach and wrestling camp counselor for kids of all ages. After realizing his true passion was working with and enhancing the lives of young people, Jason decided to make a career change and happily joined the Timber Lake Camp family.

Jason looks forward to bringing excitement and passion to camp in hopes of making the summer a positive and fulfilling experience for all TLC campers.

Stew Fritz has been the Boy’s Assistant Head counselor for the Sophomore & Junior divisions (sixth & seventh graders) for the past nine years. When Stew isn't involved in camp activities, he is a physical education teacher at Flushing High School. Over the past 26 years, Stew has coached Varsity Softball, Basketball, & Field Hockey. Stew is a 4-time NYC Coach of the Year in Softball and also a Coach of the Year in Basketball. For the past 12 years, Stew has also been very involved in the East Meadow Little League.  Stew is married to Cathy, Timber Lake’s office manager, and they have two sons, Benjamin and Zachary.

Eric Stein is the Assistant Head Counselor for the senior and collegiate divisions. Eric has been on staff for 19 summers at Camp Timber Lake, working as a Group Leader, Basketball Director, and Head Counselor during his tenure. Eric is proud to be a member of the Timber Lake Hall of Fame and the Presidential Award winner in 2004. "Steiny" was a winning General on Cajun White in '91, and has coached the Jacob's Cup Basketball Teams in '94 & '95, and '99-Present; with championship titles in '94,'95','00,'01, and '06. "I have been so blessed to be a part of the Timber Lake Experience for so long. My closest friends are through camp, and some of my fondest memories in life are connected to camp as well. I don't know what summer life is like outside of Timber Lake, and I can't imagine it any other way!"

Eric also serves as the Assistant Athletic Director at the Wheeler School in Providence, RI during the school year where he serves as the Assistant Varsity Boy's Basketball Coach, and teaches Physical Education and Health.

Mo Ayyash is back at camp this summer as the division leader for the Teen boys. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in psychology where he was and still is a huge Penn State fan. Mo is now attending graduate school at University of Southern California. He played football for 8 years, played for two years at the semi-pro level, and coached elementary and junior high football for three years. Mo coached junior high wrestling for two years as well. He loves camp more than anything and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Mo also loves lifting weights and training kids about the sport. He loves football and can't wait to see the level we can take the TNT league to this year. The kids, the leadership, the staff, the friends, the view, the community, and the love of Timber Lake Camp is what pulls Mo right back in....and the food is good too!
