Spotlight on Staff: Romy

Nickname: “Chaperomy”
Favorite Book: Thank You Mr. Faulkner by Patricia Polacco
Favorite Song: The TLC alma mater of course!

My name is Romy Diamond – I’ve been at TLC since 1983 when I first started out as a camper.  My current position at camp is Assistant Head Counselor for the Girls.  During non-camp months, I am the Principal of P.S. 81 in Queens, New York.

What’s interesting is that being a lifer at TLC actually helped me choose my professional career.  I love to be around children, and yet wanted to be able to still have my summers “off” so I could return to camp.  What better way to accomplish this than to go in to academia?

I love to take walks and to socialize with my friends, most of whom I met at Timber Lake!  The friends that I made at camp are not only from when I was a camper, but also as part of the staff, are some of my closest friends today.  Reminiscing about all the wonderful times I’ve had at camp, and having that feeling of heading to camp for the first day of the summer – making that right turn off of Route 28 and seeing the hill – It’s a feeling of finally returning home after being away for so long…  I look forward to that feeling summer after summer.  Timber Lake Camp is such a special place.  It has changed my life in so many ways.  I can’t wait to see everyone back there in 73 days!
