When most people think of Spring Training, they think of Derek Jeter or David Wright gearing up getting ready for the baseball season ahead.
This past Saturday, the Timber Lake Family of Camps had a “Spring Training” of our own as all of the camps’ Head Staff & Division Leaders got together at North Shore Day Camp in preparation for the summer of 2011. Executive Director Jay Jacobs started off the meeting and talked about “keeping our eye on the ball.” He spoke about what it takes to have a successful summer and how our best tools are our unparallelled staff and the hard work and devotion they bring to each summer at camp.
The day was action-packed, full of getting “Ditterized” by a legend in the camping industry, Bob Ditter. Bob is a well regarded child, adolescent and family therapist from Boston, Massachusetts. He is a nationally recognized trainer and consultant who has been working with us for over 20 years.
The day was a great experience for all of our Head Staff involved, and although the TLC Family of Camps has continued to grow with well over 90 staff members in attendance, we remain bonded together as one – One big happy family!

The 2011 Tri-State Camp Conference that took place in Atlantic City was in fact “epic.” So epic that over 100 camping professionals got together the day before the conference began for an EPIC meeting of their own!
The Emerging Professionals in Camping (EPIC) program featured none other than the legend in the camping industry himself, children’s development expert, Bob Ditter. His session, “Understanding Today’s Children and the Big Picture for Camp Professionals,” truly gave everyone participating a different perspective on our campers that reflect today’s society. Steve Mazza has been a member of the Timber Lake Family of Camps for quite a few years and has raised over $20,500 for children’s charities with his music! Steve first started out as a Senior Counselor and then became a Division Leader at our very own Hampton Country Day Camp. And if there’s anything to know about Steve (aside for his love of Subway sandwiches!), it’s that he LOVES children & music! So why not combine the two and see what happens, right? (more…)

This past week we took part in the largest gathering of camp professionals in the world! Over 3,000 camp directors and camp professionals gathered in Atlantic City at the American Camp Association’s Annual Tri-State Camp Conference!
One of the most important factors to a successful camp season is continuing to educate our leadership staff and counselors. As times and society changes, so must we as a camping community. So every March the American Camp Association hosts thousands of camp professionals in Atlantic City for four days of camp-related educational sessions and programs. At the conference, sessions are organized into six tracks; business, campers, community, operations, program and activities, and staff leadership. The topics ranged anywhere from cyber-bullying, camp spirit, activity planning to keeping staff motivated. (more…)

On that late August morning each summer as the buses roll out, as the waving continues until the last gate closes its doors, we travel home to meet our eagerly awaiting families as another summer ends. And hence, another school year begins.
The chill of winter has set in and Timber Lake is just about covered with snow. It must be a beautiful sight! Winter has its beauty but to all of us at Timber Lake there is nothing more exquisite than the sight of 7 coach buses rolling through the gates driving around the back boys row as our alma matter blares….the beginning of another magical summer. New campers, you will feel this too: Believe us all!!
Meanwhile, from the Long Island central hub, the management staff is crafting and molding the summer of 2010 filled with amazing and fun activities guaranteed to thrill us all…
From the desk of our new program director Robbie G….here is a dribbling of what to expect…. (more…)

I remember it was only 2 years ago that I was heading into my first summer at Timber Lake Camp. Even though everyone in the winter office kept telling me I was going to love the summer, I was feeling a little uncertain of what to expect because I had never been to camp before.
As I think about my last couple of summers at Timber Lake, I’m still amazed that camp was more fun than I ever could have imagined. I was surprised that in just 54 days everyone was able to make such strong bonds. This summer I’m really looking forward to meeting all of the new campers who will be entering their first summer at Timber Lake, just like I was a couple of years ago. I can relate well to their feelings of being a little nervous and uncertain about what their first summer will be like, but I am confident they will walk away from the summer saying it was an amazing experience, and they’ll be counting down the days until 2011!

When Jared Marcus and I joined forces to start Everything Camper Apparel, we had our campers in mind. We wanted to bring our camp families apparel that our campers would want to wear all year long. We want our clothing to be an extension of camp, wearing the apparel with pride. There is so much to look forward to with our new line like, brand new Under Armour products and a ton of stuff from American Apparel. Also, a company called Banner 47, which makes most college vintage clothing, is making an exclusive line for Timber Lake and Tyler Hill. We carry all brands you know and some new ones. We will also have all the bunk junk products that are sold in your local stores. Everything Camper Apparel is a one stop shop. We look forward to seeing the campers this summer wearing all of their new stuff!
Also, please become a Fan of Everything Camper Apparel on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!
