Rookie Day at TLC is always filled with excitement! We’ve had 2 Rookie Days where we welcomed groups of prospective Timber Lake campers who joined us for a day of fun, friendship and excitement.
Rookie Day is a one day program where we invite prospective campers to participate with other prospective and current campers in a typical day at camp. Parents start the day with their children. Then, as the children go off with their counselors and new friends for a power packed day of activities, parents get a complete tour of Camp, get to meet our staff and speak with the Directors Jay and Mindy. After that, it’s time for Parents to have some fun! Enjoy local sites, engage in some of the area’s activities and have lunch in town on us! They return later in the afternoon to pick up their “camper”, who we hope will be our future Timber Lake Camper!

We were so excited for the summer to begin!!!! The buses pulled in through the gates filled with smiles that ran the entire length of the bus – We’ve been waiting for this day, and it finally arrived! Opening Day Summer 2011!!! Screams of joy & laughter filled the air with so many hugs for old friends, counselors and sheer excitement of what’s to come over the next few weeks. HELLO Timber Lakers!!!! We’re so glad our summer family is back together again for another season filled with fun & adventure!
What a gorgeous day it was during our Open House this past weekend! The sun was shining as all of our new campers & parents arrived to camp for a fun-filled day. After everyone checked in, Mindy & Jay divided everyone into groups for tours led by our Head Counselors & Division Leaders. (They even got a sneak peak at some of the awesome new facilities we’re unveiling this summer!)
After the tours, everyone met back at the Dining Hall for lunch where we held a “Taste Test” to help us decide between two different types of pizzas to have this summer – everyone really liked this part of the day!
After lunch, while Mindy & Jay spoke to the parents about what to expect during their camper’s first summer here at TLC, the campers split up between the boys and girls, and went to play some games! The girls played Gaga & BBG on the Girl’s campus with Janie, Romy, Jackie, Jess, and Jen while the boys played kickball with Steve, Jason, and Robbie!

Selecting the right camp for your child is both important and impactful. Camp is, for most people, an experience that can last for six or more years (with memories that last for many decades after!) At TLC, we know that such a big decision shouldn’t be made lightly, so we’ve specifically designed our Rookie Day Program to allow your child an opportunity to “taste” the sleep away camp experience, while giving you, as parents, a close-up look at our facilities, program, supervision and philosophy. This past Saturday was Timber Lake’s first Rookie Day for summer 2010! Rookie Day is a day when potential campers (“Rookies”) and their parents come to Timber Lake while camp is in session to experience what we’re all about. It’s kind of like a test drive for next summer – a way for parents & campers to get to know us better, while taking part in lots of awesome camp activities! After spending just 1 day with us, many of our Rookie Day families enroll for the following summer as official TLC campers.
The moment everyone had been waiting for… The buses rolled in to Timber Lake at 2:30pm this past Saturday! The 6 buses from Long Island & 3 from Paramus rolled in to camp within 15 minutes of each other, dropping off all our campers on the girl’s lower basketball court. As the bus doors opened, campers streamed out with so much excitement, while their eyes scanned the cheering crowd to find familiar faces of camp friends and former counselors. This week Timber Lake Camp welcomed staff old and new from all over the world to kick off what is going to be another amazing summer! From the moment when the first staff arrived, the week was filled with informative and fun activities that allowed new counselors to learn and appreciate what Timber Lake Camp is all about. From STARFISHto a mock sing night, to the camp Alma Mater. The camp spirit has begun to ignite amongst these trusty hills once again. We are prepared for opening day and our staff is looking forward to making summer 2010 at Timber Lake Camp the best one yet!
If your house is like my house, there are piles of clothing sitting in the living room along with an assortment of sports equipment, toiletries, and other assorted camp paraphernalia all waiting to be stuffed into duffel bags crumpled up on the couch. There is still some labeling to do and a few more vital supplies to pick-up before every last bit is ready. It will really never be fully ready and I know we’ll forget an item or two, but that’s what UPS is for. Yes, it’s clearly camp time! (more…)

On Saturday, March 13th, our youngest boys and girls went to the New York Sports Club in Ramsey, NJ for our 3rd annual HoopStarz reunion! To say that they had a fun time would be the understatement of the century! From basketball, soccer, kickball, and dodge ball – To pizza, soda, and delicious smoothies – The reunion was a huge success!
