TLC Alum hits the big screen!

David “GUGGI” Guggenheim (3rd from left) attended Timber Lake from 1986 through 1998 as a camper, kitchen staff and then as a counselor.  He’s now set to blow up this year when two movies that he scribed hit the big screen.

Married with two kids and living in New York, Guggi worked for Us Weekly for nearly 10 years, covering 2 Marathon Breakouts in the magazine, before selling his first screenplay, Safe House.  The movie, opening February 10th, is an action thriller about a CIA housekeeper (played by Ryan Reynolds) who has to transport a rogue agent (Denzel Washington) to a secure location after his safe house is attacked by mercenaries.

Apparently screenwriting runs in the family – his brother Marc wrote the 2011 comic book movie Green Lantern and created the 2008 legal dramedy Eli Stone. If that wasn’t enough talent for one family, his other brother, Eric, scripted the 2004 movie Miracle about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team that overcame over the seemingly invincible Russian squad, and now writes for the hit NBC show Parenthood.  All three siblings went to Timber Lake for many summers.

As a camper, Guggi’s favorite camp activities were OBS, roller hockey, hanging out on the porch playing spades and was always an active participant when it came to writing the Marathon skits.  In between activities, his favorite memories were the times spent with his camp friends: Mike Arnold, Jordan Mallah, Adam Goldstein, Jordan Kam, Evan Semegran & Alex Gleser.  Whether it was a random joke, a midnight raid, paying six dollars for a delicious slice of Brios pizza or simply getting to enjoy two months with your best friends without a care in the world for two months, camp certainly left a life long impact on Guggi.

In his own words, “My friends from camp are still my closest friends to this day – I’m grateful for that.  Living on the Upper East Side, it’s like I never left TLC – I run into an old camp friends practically every time I leave my apartment.  Throw in the occasional noon-time snack and it’s like I’m in Shandaken all over again”

So what’s up next for Guggi?  His second movie, Stolen, stars Nicholas Cage and will be in theaters May 25th and he just recently set up two new movies with Ron Howard and Tony Scott directing.  The TLC Family will be watching and continues to wish Guggi all the best!
