Sad news from camp
Out of respect for and at the request of the parents of our camper, we have waited until now to email you about a tragedy on the very last night of camp. Our hearts are broken as we inform you that of one of our youngest campers: a Freshman girl, Riley Sandler, passed away today.
Riley was brought to the Health Center by her counselors on Saturday night. Once there, her health rapidly deteriorated and EMS was called. I was at the Health Center with our doctor and medical staff as they tried to keep Riley with us. Local EMS responded and Mindy accompanied her, first to Kingston Hospital and then to the Pediatric Center in Albany. As soon as the buses departed, I joined Mindy at the hospital in Albany to be with her parents.
At this moment no one knows what caused the rapid deterioration in her condition. We are told that this is not a communicable illness issue.
We have a crisis counseling team available to assist you and your child if you feel the need. This is a traumatic loss for all of us, but particularly for the campers who knew her so well.
Riley was a delightful, magnificent little girl with the world waiting for her. She loved camp and camp loved her. Words cannot express our grief at this moment and our heartfelt sympathy for her entire family.
