Tri-State Camp Conference

Before our Timber Lake team made the trip down to Atlantic City for the annual American Camp Association‘s Tri-State Camp Conference, I had no idea what to expect. As a newcomer, choosing between all of the different sessions in the conference handbook and meeting 3,000 other attendees that are all apart of the camping industry was a bit intimidating. I checked out several different sessions including ones for Marathon, a round table discussion of different programming ideas, and EPIC (which stands for Emerging Professionals in Camping).

The one speaker that stood out to me the most was a guy by the name of Shawn Achor. He spoke to us about positive psychology and how it can not only positively impact childrens’ lives, but our own as well! He suggested that we read a book called “The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science,” by Norman Doidge. Hopefully it is interesting, being that I just ordered it off of Amazon a couple of days ago!

I can’t wait until next year when the TLC Crew gets to rejoin our friends in the camping industry for another great Tri-State!
