The Tigers bring the Jacobs Cup home to TLC!
This past Wednesday, TLC hosted nine boys basketball teams to fight for the title of 2010 Jacobs Cup Champions. Contenders from Westmont, Seneca Lake, Lokanda, Pontiac, Camp Echo, Kinder Ring, Camp Wayne and our sister camp, Tyler Hill arrived at TLC mid-morning for the coin toss to determine the first round of match-ups.
This annual tournament is one of the most coveted titles in all of camping, and from the moment camp began this summer, the 13 players and 2 coaches that comprised TLC’s team had one goal – to BRING BACK THE CUP! After a 4-year drought, it was time to make it rain in the Timber Dome!
In the first game of the day, Timber Lake came out strong and soundly defeated Westmont 44-23. Eric Kramer had a strong showing which allowed Jason Katz and Ethan Back to fly under the radar as the other teams scouted the TLC Tigers. In the next round of play, TLC suffered a frustrating 13pt loss to Pontiac, leaving their survival at the mercy of the wild card slot.
In what proved to be the most dramatic match-up of the day, Timber Lake pulled off a last minute victory against last year’s champions, Seneca Lake. Ethan Back was clutch with 20 seconds remaining hitting a shot that put TLC up 38-37. Jason Katz was a defensive machine making key stops in the final minutes.
In a confident finals match-up against Lokanda, Tournament MVP Ethan Back set a new individual best of 33pts. Jason Katz finished off a strong showing in the tourney with 11 pts. Eric Kramer played very unselfishly, dishing out 10 assists. Chad Blesnick, in his rookie year, along with Drew Miller contributed multiple rebounds, for a final score of 61-48! The Dome erupted in cheers as our boys managed to bring the Cup back to TLC!
We had a great day here in camp and had a lot of fun with all our alumni and parents who tuned in to our live Twitter coverage. Make sure you tune in next Wednesday, July 28th for our live Gordon Cup coverage!
