I Missed Camp So Much, I Had to Come Back!

Hello TLCers!  My name is Bari and I’m from Roslyn, New York.  Some background on me: I studied abroad in Florence, Italy for 4 months and Graduated from Syracuse University with my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education. I am currently approaching my final semester at New York University where I’m receiving my Masters Degree in Childhood Education and Special Education.

I am a second-generation Timber Lake camper.  My father, Cliff also went to TLC and currently holds the unofficial title for being the first parent up the hill on Visiting Day!  My mother is Jacki, and I have a sister, Morgan, who also went to Timber Lake for 8 summers.

Even though my father went to TLC, he let me make my own decision as to where I wanted to go to camp. I looked at so many different camps, but when I visited Timber Lake, I knew it was where I wanted to be.  To this day I am so thankful to have made the right decision!

This summer will be my 13th summer at TLC.  I went for 8 summers as a camper, 4 summers as a counselor and then took at 3 year break…  During those 3 years, my summers felt so empty, I found myself missing camp terribly.  So much so that I had to make a change and come back for Summer 2013, where I will be the Teen Division Leader! 🙂

I can’t express how thankful I am to be a part of the Timber Lake family, and how camp continues to be a part of me. When I became a counselor, I knew I really wanted to help my campers have the same kind of experience that I had as a TLC camper.

TLC, without question, has been a huge part of who I am today.  Even though I love the camp itself, it is the people at camp who have made it such a big part of my life.  The friends I have today are the same friends I made back in 1998 in bunk 2.  My best memories and best friends are from Timber Lake.  I’m really looking forward to this summer – See you in 133 days!
