Keeping the Melter Cup at Timber Lake Camp!

This past Sunday, Timber Lake Camp hosted the Melter Cup Tournament – our big softball tournament on girl’s side named after one of our former Assistant Girls Head Counselors, Lisa Melter.

The team, led by captains Madison K. and Melanie F., played their hearts out and came away victorious. Throughout the day there were many highlights for our team.  In the first game of the tournament, Timber Lake hosted Camp Scatico at Tiger Stadium with the whole camp cheering the team on from the stands.  The Timber Lake Tigers started out strong.  Madison had ten strikeouts and a grand slam and Julie B. followed Madison’s Grand Slam with an in-park home run.  The Timber Lake Tigers backed Madison up well, and played strong defense to finish the game 19-0.

In the second game, the Timber Lake team played against Blue Ridge.  In what started out as a very defensive game on both ends, Lexi B. made her pitching debut for Timber Lake and recorded 4 strikeouts and let up no runs.  Throughout the first three innings, both pitchers pitched well and the teams played strong defense.  Going into the bottom of the fourth, with the score still tied 0-0, the Blue Ridge pitcher walked two of our players.  With players on first and second, Rachel S. hit a single to right field which brought in the first run of the game.  After a change of momentum, the Timber Lake Tigers scored 10 runs to end the game 10-0.

The Tigers then played against Tyler Hill.  The team came out strong, with Madison pitching nine strikeouts and hitting a home run.  In the first inning the Tigers scored 5 runs, aided by Rachel’s triple that brought 2 runs in.  In the third inning, Madison hit a home run to left field, and Erica L. hit a double that brought two more runs in to ensure Timber Lake would make it to the finals.

After dinner, the camp gathered again in Tiger Stadium to watch our Tigers play against Blue Ridge again for the finals.  The girls on both teams were tired after a long day, but the Timber Lake players worked relentlessly to keep the cup.  In the first inning, Melanie hit a beautiful single to bring in the first run.  Emily K. then hit a single to bring in 2 runs.  Later on in the game, Rachel again hit a nice double to bring in another two runs for Timber Lake Camp.  Madison, in her last game pitching for Timber Lake, had thirteen strikeouts and only let up one hit all game.

The Tigers beat Blue Ridge 6-0, keeping the Melter Cup at Timber Lake Camp, without letting up a single run all day!  We are very proud of all of our players and their hard work throughout the summer in preparing for this important day!!!
